Aftercare Information

To keep your entomology pieces looking their best for years to come:

  • Keep them out of direct sunlight
  • Display them in a dry, low-humidity space, ideally between 40-65% humidity (so bathrooms aren’t ideal)
  • Place them somewhere clean and dust-free, as excess dust can attract small pests over time
  • Use sturdy nails or wall hangers and place out of reach of children and pets.

With just a little thoughtful placement, your pieces will stay in beautiful condition for years to enjoy.

Mould Growth

Due to the nature of materials used, mould can be a risk especially in high humidity households. If you do notice mould on any specimens, wrap it in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer for a few days to kill the spores, Then, using a small brush/cotton bud and pure acetone, gently wipe the mould off the specimen taking care not to damage the body or wings. Be very gentle! Leave the specimen to air dry then reassemble the frame.

Pests

Common household pests are attracted to organic materials, but with simple preventative care, this is rarely an issue. A stable, dry environment is the best protection.

Keep an eye out for dust build-up, damage to the specimen or flecks at the bottom of the frame. These can be indicators of a pest infestation.

Place your frame in a plastic bag then place the specimen into the freezer for a week, then leave it out for a few hours then repeat the process to kill any remaining eggs or pests. Open your frame and gently remove any debris that may remain.

Specimens are stored in my collection with preventative pest measures.
