This familiar garden tiger moth is beautifully mounted in a 10x10cm frame on a luxurious orange velvet mount. A classic and well-loved resident across England and the rest of the UK, this striking nocturnal species is scientifically known as Arctia caja. It is instantly recognisable by its chunky, woolly appearance and its dramatic brown and cream patterned forewings, which resemble a detailed map or giraffe print. These patterns act as camouflage when resting, but when threatened, the moth flashes its bright orange hindwings covered in deep blue-black spots to startle predators while releasing an unpleasant-tasting fluid as a defense.
