Green Banded Urania Moth

This Green Banded Urania is beautifully mounted in a 18x18cm frame on a dramatic black background featuring an elegant gothic arch decoration. Found throughout the tropical rainforests of South America east of the Andes, this breathtaking specimen is scientifically known as Urania leilus. Often mistaken for a swallowtail butterfly, it is actually a spectacular day-flying moth belonging to the Uraniidae family. It is characterised by its striking jet-black wings streaked with vibrant, iridescent green bands that shimmer beautifully against the dark gothic display, serving as a warning to predators of the toxicity it carries from its caterpillar diet.
